She listened on as the radio blared on in the car. Cold chills raked her body as her mouth lay open. The news reported an accident, leaving one dead. One very important person in her heart. Nana shook her head, repeating the word “No” over and over again as she tried to grasp the possibility. It wasn’t right. The whole thing was a lie.

Feeling her body weaken, she yelled for the driver to stop the car. At first, he hesitated until she started to swing at him from behind. He quickly pulled over, fearing that he might lose control. Heart hammering, she fell out, her knees slamming into the cold pavement of the side walk.

But she couldn’t feel anything.

Nothing except for the stabbing pain in her heart.

How could have this happened?

Voices drifted to her and her mind quickly snapped. “Run.” Yes, that’s all she needed to do. If she ran, the lies would stop and she could find that everything was as it should be. Feet unsteady, she started to race down the icy streets of Osaka as her body breath puffed out like smoke. She had to get away.

The toll of hell’s bells would not break her. She would not break in pieces all over the ground.

No damn this.

But her body cramped and her mind swam with thoughts, images. Blood oozing from wounds that were fatal. Hands fallen over a steering wheel. A face that she spent nights simply staring at covered with cuts from shards of glass all over.

Nana’s feet halted and her body finally gave.

Tears rushed down her face all the while she shook her head in denial.

“No no no.” She breathlessly cried. “You can’t be.”

The crunching of snow sounded as feet followed from behind. Not having the will to move, she lay down on the cold snow. Eyes closed.

Her lips already beginning to become frost bitten, she felt her voice start to give. And for the first time in her life - she didn’t give a shit.

“You can’t be dead. You can’t.” Her body convulsed just as arms and hands grabbed at her jacket, trying to pull her away from the blistering coldness that gave her numbness. She needed it. Someone pulled on her arm - a flash of the lotus flower on her arm...her eyes flashed open

And then a scream ripped from her “Damn you, Ren! Why did you have to die!?”
