Day/Theme: October 01: waiting in the wings

"Cordelia!" Wesley whispered, harsh and horrified, "What are you doing?"
"Do you need new glasses?" Corelia asked as she attacked her index finger with her nail file with particular vigor. "What does it look like I'm doing?"
Wesley readjusted his glasses before waving his arm out to the side, pointing towards the half-empty parking lot that they were staking out. "I needn't remind you that we are on a mission of utmost importance - or, rather, I do, and I shouldn't - "
"Are we getting paid?"
"No."
"Did I get a mind-numbingly painful vision from TPTB?" Corelia asked, bored, as she moved onto filing her thumbnail.
"No," Wesley admitted, "but - "
"Then it's not that important," Cordelia said.
Wesley turned around sharply to in order to face Angel. "Angel, I urge you to talk some sense into her!"
At that, Corelida finally looked up to face Angel, and folded her arms.
"Wesley's right," Angel said after thinking it over for a moment. "All of our missions are important."
Wesley shot Cordy as smug look, and she responded by sticking her tongue out at him.
Gunn leaned against the car they were hiding behind and said in response to their, thankfully brief, argument, as he tilted his head towards Cordelia and Wesley's general direction, "You think they keep count of how many wins they have?"
Sounding like a long-suffering parent Angel was beginning to suspect he'd become over the past few months, he said dryly, "I really wouldn't put it past them."
All and all, Angel had to admit he probably deserved Cordelia throwing her nail file (after giving her nails a once-over to make sure they looked just right) at him and Wesley giving him a hurt look before turning away.
