[September 27] [Waqwaq] The Problematic
Title:The Problematic
Day/Theme:September 27/I don't not like you
Series:Waqwaq
Character/Pairing: Leo/Matsuda(God)
Rating:K+
Notes:Kinda AU. Let's just pretend God was not snatched away by Kiku right after she had met Leo.
Former Sakimori Leo Hediard of the Village of Five currently had a problem. A very big problem. For several days now, he had been suffering from a terrible headache, a headeache he thought God had completely healed but it turned out she didn't. Now, Leo found himself back to his old grumpy self but this time around, he was more sensitive, more irritable than usual. He would get angry even for the pettiest of reasons.
For example, he snarled at Armaiti just because he suddenly remembered how the Gojin-zou ate his own Gojin-zou, Asha.
Then, he snarled at Shio simply because he was Armaiti’s partner. (“Leo, didn’t we have a discussion about this already? I thought this issue was over…” the younger boy looked at him in wonder. )
And lastly, he snarled at God because…well, she’s God.
Leo clenched his fists as he stared at the pretty, long-haired girl right across him. She was currently busy adding wood to the bonfire, trying to keep the flames alive in order to keep Shio and Armaiti warm as they slept. He released an angry huff.
It was all her fault. This headache; his sleepless nights—she was to be blamed for everything. She cured him of his migraine and now she brought it back. And along with it, she made him feel something he had never felt before…a weird, unfamiliar feeling. (He wondered if she had this effect on Shio as well.)
Leo shook his head as he averted his gaze to the ground. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes. He only wanted her as a sacrifice. That’s right. Once he had gotten Asha back from Shio, he would defeat all the remaining Sakimori and he would sacrifice her blood to get his wish. He wouldn’t care if she died because of blood loss. Sakimori were selfish beings; he was not an exception.
But strangely, he just couldn’t imagine himself offering her blood to the Spider’s Web. No matter how many times he tried to convince himself that he was not concerned about her welfare, that the only thing important in this world was his wish, the truth was always slapped onto his face: he didn’t really want to kill, let alone hurt her.
And it was making him angry because he was not supposed to feel this way. He was not supposed to be kind to her. This was never one of his plans.
“Leo-san, are you all right?”
The sound of her voice snapped him out of his thoughts. Looking up, he saw that God had a concerned expression on her face. He snorted as he looked to his left, evading her eyes. “Of course I am,” he answered in his usual haughty tone. “Why shouldn’t I be?”
Matsuda eyed him skeptically. She had traveled with him long enough to distinguish whether he was lying or not, and this time, she had a big feeling there was something wrong. The fact that he was grumpier than normal added more to her suspicions. Rising from the log she was sitting at, she slowly walked across to join him on the ground.
Leo cursed silently as he sensed her coming near, and more of these silent curses came as she settled next to him. He continued to face the other side.
“Shio-kun told me your headaches are coming back again,” he heard her say.
He didn’t answer.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t able to heal your migraine completely but…”
He wrinkled his forehead when he felt her move. From the corner of his eyes, he saw her picking up a small piece of metal. Seeing its sharp edges, it didn’t take Leo long enough to deduce what she was planning to do with the machine fragment. Sadly, he had not been quick enough to stop her.
His eyes widened, seeing all the blood on her palm. Without thinking, he grabbed the metal away from her grasp and threw it back to the ground where it belonged.
“Why the hell did you do that?!” he exclaimed as he instinctively reached for her wounded hand to inspect it. The wound wasn’t that deep, thank goodness, but he still thought what she did was unnecessary.
“I just wanted to help you…” she replied, wincing a bit. Her hand hurt a lot to be honest, and certainly, if only she didn’t have a high tolerance to pain, she would have cried right then and there. She focused all her attention on Leo. He was mumbling something incoherently as he tore a piece of cloth from his cloak to cover her wound. It was strange, she thought. For a guy, who once threatened her with a sword, he looked so concerned.
“Didn’t you hear it when I said I’m fine!?” he muttered angrily while wiping the excess blood on her palm. “If I wanted your help, I would have cut you myself!”
She frowned. She had never expected this kind of reaction from him at all. She thought he would at least appreciate her gesture.
“I’m sorry, Leo-san. I thought—“
She paused upon seeing the gentle expression on his face. Leo had always looked so tough. It was rare to see him looked so worried–and all because of small wound. She just couldn’t help but stare at him in wonder. Leo Hediard was quite surprising sometimes.
“Don’t do this again.”
She slightly flinched when she heard him speak again. He sighed as he was tying the piece of cloth over her wound. “You know how Shio over-reacts whenever he sees that you’re injured.”
“I-I won’t. I promise.” She faintly smiled at him. “Thanks for treating my wound.”
Leo gave her a furtive glance. “It was nothing,” he mumbled as he let go of her hand and diverted his attention to the metal scraps near his feet.
An uncomfortable silence followed next. Matsuda eyed him worriedly. She reached out to touch his arm. He jolted a bit upon contact.
“Leo-san,if there’s something that’s bothering you and you need someone to talk to, I’m willing to listen.”
Leo merely remained quiet. Inwardly, however, he was becoming restless. He gave another silent curse. (Stupid heart. Why was it beating so fast?)Still, he tried to act and sound casual. “I don’t have any problems,” he insisted as he lied down on the ground. ”It’s getting late. You should get some sleep.”
Matsuda stared at his back for a while. It was obvious that Leo was being evasive. Shaking her head, she stood up and dusted the dirt off her skirt. If he didn’t want to talk about it, fine, she would not force him to. Maybe this wasn’t just the proper time…
She gave him an assuring glance. “In case you change your mind, I want you to know I’m always here.” She waited for a reply; it never came. Sighing, she slightly bowed to excuse herself.
She walked back to where Shio and Armaiti were, but she paused when she heard Leo call after her.
“Hey, God…”
She curiously looked back at him. “What is it,Leo-san?”
A short wordless moment passed before the swordsman spoke. ”…Good night.”
A small smile slowly graced Matsuda’s lips.”Good night to you, too.” Then, she went on to join the younger Sakimori and his Gojin-zou.
As cautiously as he could, Leo moved to watch her. He groaned as his chest continued to thump. He buried his face on the palm of his hand.
Former Sakimori Leo Hediard of the Village of Five currently had a problem. A very big problem.
