[Sept. 21] [Dog Soldiers] All Talk
Title: All Talk
Day/Theme: 21. loves thunder, hates lightning
Series: Dog Soldiers
Character/Pairing: Ryan
Rating: PG
Ryan was all talk. He was big and bad enough when he was in charge. He got off on control and his own authority. Making the soldiers under him jump through hoops gave him a thrill. Which is why he had been so furious at Coop for refusing to fire on orders. Which is why he had made sure it was Coop’s team that was the bait for the new project.
He had been most satisfied with barking orders to his own team, smirking to himself as the sound of gunfire and the beep of the motion detectors had indicated that their target was getting closer.
Then the storm had broken. There had been more than one. The creatures had moved in from every side, and all his preparations and bluster had been for nothing. They hadn’t roared or postured. They had just moved in like monstrous shadows, lightning fast, and slaughtered his men around him.
At first, Ryan had just been outraged. It was unacceptable that this was happening. But his rank and his orders had meant nothing to the creature. His weapon hadn’t stopped it. It didn’t care who he was, only that he was in the way. It had torn him open and thrown him aside, left him struck with unexpected fear and shocked at his helplessness.
