[15-Sep-2008] [Mai-Otome] Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Title: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Day/Theme: September 15 - ternary logic: "yes", "no", or "what the fuck?"
Series: Mai-Otome
Characters: Sara, Haruka, Chie, Yukino, mention of Irina
Rating: PG for mild language
Genre: humor
Word Count: 439
Warning: possible spoilers for the Zwei OVA, lame excuse to use shiny new Sara Gallagher avatar.
Before the latest war room meeting could begin, Aries president Yukino Chrysant ordered all non-essential personnel out of the room, as she warned them that things could get messy. The tension between Haruka, Chie, and Sara, Yukino's three most trusted advisors, was easy to sense. Their last meeting ended inconclusively, with Haruka punching a hole through one of the seats in the chairs. They hoped to reconvene during their lunch hour in hopes that everyone would be able to discuss the current issue rationally.
"As I said yesterday," Sara began, "I move that we immediately promote young Irina Woods to the level of Meister Otome. Her grades at Garderobe Academy are among the highest in her graduating class, and her battle skills are constantly improving since I last saw her. What's your opinion, Lieutenant Colonel Hallard?"
"Are you sure we should do this so early, Sara?" asked Chie. "I mean, if we pull her out of school in the middle of the semester, there's no guarantee that she'll be able to get back in if she changes her mind."
Yukino stood up from her chair and nodded in agreement. "Yes. While I'll agree with you that Irina is capable of handling the responsibility, it would be a great inconvenience to the Garderobe staff to remove her before she completes her term. We've used a good portion of our budget getting her into school in the first place."
"As much as I hate to admit it," said Haruka, "I have to take Sara's position here."
Sara was shocked. With Haruka's pride as the leader of an army, and Sara's as an Otome Pillar, she and the general rarely agreed on anything. Even the smallest of disagreements between the two of them often got heated. The only reaction Sara could give to Haruka's unusually subdued approval was a blank stare. "Say what?"
"The Schwarz may have been defeated, but there's no telling who might come after us next," said Haruka. "We need our best recruits available to defend our nation at a moment's notice."
"Great...so the vote is two against two again," said Chie. "We really need to have a fifth person present at these meetings to prevent this from happening."
"Well, I guess this leaves us only one thing to do," said Yukino.
"Flip on it?" Sara suggested.
Her smile faded as the other three board members looked at her angrily. "Sara!" they all shouted in unison.
"You're planning on deciding the fate of our nation on a coin toss?" Haruka added. "What the hell are you thinking?"
"It was just a suggestion, you guys. Geez, chill out, will ya?"
