[September 2] [The Last Unicorn] Lacking in Wonder
Title: Lacking in Wonder

At the end of that summer, something happened. It was as if the entire world sighed with resignation for the loss of childhood fantasies. Nothing was noticeably different, but there was a feeling, as if something sweet and wonderful was gone, and all that was left was the ordinary. People went to their work without joy and the world seemed lacking in wonder.
At the ends of the earth, the magician felt it too. The Unicorn was fading into Amalthea. Without her, there were no unicorns left. The world knew that. The forests would become nothing but overgrown groves full of stupid animals. The dreams of maidens would be silly, girlish things to be outgrown or slapped out of them.
While there was one unicorn left, the oldest stories still felt true. There was still beauty in innocence. The wide world still felt like a place to be explored and wondered at. Now that she was fading, so were all the dreams and hopes that her existence had inspired.
The magician could feel the world lamenting the loss of the Unicorn, just as she had felt her mortal human body age around her. He ran to find her, knowing that if she was to be saved, if all the unicorns were to be saved, it would have to be soon.
