[1-Sep-2008] [Mai-HiME] Not That There's Anything Wrong With That
Title: Not That There's Anything Wrong With That
Day/Theme: September 1 - say it again
Series: Mai-HiME
Characters/Pairing: Chie, Aoi, Mai/Mikoto
Rating: G
Genre: humor/romance?
Word Count: 317
It seemed like another mundane afternoon for Mai, Chie, and Aoi as they sat and ate lunch at their usual spot. They sat and talked about the subsitute teacher from their English class when Chie derailed the subject with an out-of-the-blue statement and a sly grin.
"Come on, Mai, tell us more," said an anxious Chie.
Mai tried to eat her noodles quietly as Chie's cameraphone was focused directly upon her. "More? About what?"
"About what the two of you were doing at the park yesterday. An anonymous source tells me that the two of you were holding hands and cuddling out there, in full view of everybody. Sounds to me like love is in the air."
"Love?! Where did you get that idea?" Mai fumbled her chopsticks and her face turned bright red. "We're just good friends! Really!"
"If you say so, Mai...but the rumors are just gonna get louder and louder until you fess up to somebody about what really happened."
"I think it's kinda cute that the two of you get along so well," said Aoi. "I'm surprised that nobody's come around to pay that much attention to me. You're pretty lucky."
Mai looked back and forth at her two lunchmates, but stopped from saying anything before she could make a fool of herself. She looked over at Mikoto, who was waving to her from a seat two tables over. As Mikoto got up and running, Chie and Aoi got up and prepared to deposit their empty food packaging in a trash bin.
"I'm stuffed," said Aoi.
"Yeah, me too," Chie teased. "Come on. Let's leave these two young ladies alone to...catch up."
"I told you, guys," Mai protested, "it's not...like...that...?"
Mai hated repeating herself about it, but when Mikoto pulled up a chair next to her and gave her a comforting hug, she felt there was very little room to argue it further.
