[august 31st] [original] what to say, how to say it
Title: What to Say, How to Say It
Day/Theme: August 31st - Forget whatever I said
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Raz, Kayl
Rating: PG
Word Count: 449
"Ah, so you’re turning this into an engagement ring?"
"Do you want me to get you another one?"
Kayl shook her head with great fervor. "It's fine!" The young woman fidgeted a little under his gentle, but unmoving, gaze and to pre-occupy herself, she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear with her free hand. Her eyes drifted back to the hand Raz was still holding.
Her ring glittered in the sunlight and she felt her cheeks flush as she remembered the night he placed the it on her finger. She remembered crying at the idea of the two of them going their separate ways for a year and a half but now, Kayl couldn't help but smile pleasantly at the memory.
"You know," she said, looking up from the object on her finger. Raz raised an eyebrow to show that he was listening but curious. A mischievous smile crept onto her face as she slid her hand out of his grasp. "I liked your old proposal better."
The fire dragon arched his eyebrow higher and gave Kayl a bemused look. "Is that so?" he asked, his gaze still focused on every inch of her.
The human woman nodded to his statement as she closed the distance between their bodies. Kayl resisted the urge to giggle when she saw his body twitch in response. "It's true," she said as her hands cupped his cheeks, which felt hotter than usual, and stood on the tips of her toes. She placed a soft, simple kiss on his lips. Against her will, she broke away from him when he began to wrap his arms around her shoulders.
Raz gazed at her with half-lidded crimson eyes as she smiled at him. "You didn't have to say 'I love you'." She didn't know why, but Kayl was beginning to feel meek after her previous actions. Playing with her thumbs and directing her gaze to the ground, she continued quietly. "I thought the both of us knew that."
Kayl’s gaze immediately shot back to the dragon’s face when he tilted her chin in his direction. He placed his forehead against hers, closed his eyes, and smiled. Not a smirk or a grin. Just a warm smile.
"Then," he opened his eyes halfway and placed his hands on her waist. "Why don't you forget that I said it?"
Before she could reply, he captured her lips in his and she felt everything else leave her mind as she ran her fingers through his hair. There was only the two of them there, sharing a kiss more passionate than the last that said more than the two could say through words.
