You whisper at night, hoping that I am fast asleep, unaware of the meanings behind your words. The longing in your gentle touches that leave a burning of need within me.

Swift, hushed, quiet, you quickly fall back within the dying darkness as the sun begins to rise along with my conscious mind. But I know you are there. Always.

Every night, I await your return. Every night, you answer my silent plea.

Centuries pass. I have died and risen again in a new form, a new name with a different shape of a family. Still, I wait.

When finally, the soft brush of fingers and the words become frantic did I open my eyes to find yours wide with surprise looking down upon me. I smile and rest a hand to your cheek. You truly are my silent hero. Waiting and watching until your damsel is needing salvation.

No words pass. Lips press against mine and I feel like I’ve floated to heaven.

The dawn breaks. This time however, you do not flee at its presence and instead bask in the majestic lights on the horizon.

“You,” he whispers as he presses his mouth to my ear, making sure the whisper is all mine “are what I’ve waited for.”

Smiling, I reply “As the same for you, my love.”
