[September 3] [Hunter x Hunter] Freaks
Title: Freaks
Day/Theme: September 3 -- Being as yet but a girl
Series: Hunter x Hunter
Character/Pairing: Karuto Zyaoldyeck
Rating: PG
Karuto adjusted the line of his kimono as he contemplated just how many things he’d been wrong about.
To begin with, he had been born the wrong gender. He wasn’t sure if it was some defect within himself or the simple fact that his mother had been determined that at least one of her children be a pretty little girl, biology be damned, and no one could deny that Karuto was pretty. Somewhere along the way he had gotten used to the delicate kimonos, obis, and touches of makeup, and now he felt uncomfortable dressed in anything else.
He was also wrong about the world at large. [It was standard practice for the Zyaoldyeck children to rebel at some point and strike out at the world on their own (although Killua had taken it to a ridiculous extreme, Karuto reflected) just as it was standard practice for their parents to wail about how never before has any child acted so dishonorably.] He hadn’t expected to be accepted completely, but he grew tired of killing, maiming, or creatively silencing all the people who thought him a freak.
He was wrong about the strength of the Spiders—the few who were weaker than he were either much more intelligent or too useful to be replaced. Karuto was outclassed in almost every respect, and he knew it, even if no one else pointed it out directly.
And, finally, he had been wrong about the Spiders as a whole. They were weird. Bororenolf did an excellent impression of a mummy. Feitan fought with an umbrella. Shizuku could summon a vacuum cleaner with a mouth and would forget most things within ten minutes of telling her. Compared to them, Karuto was practically normal. He had joined them as a way to save his brother, but when he watched them tease each other or kill enemies together or just sit around and tell stories, Karuto could remember what being in a family should be like.
