[August 13, 2008][Final Fantasy XII] Taking Aim

Title: Taking Aim
Day/Theme: Aug. 13, 2008 "Trigger space"
Series: Final Fantasy XII
Character/Pairing: Penelo, Fran (Fran/Penelo?)
Rating: G, but with shoujo-ai overtones

"Woah!" Penelo gasped, stepping backward to keep her balance. The crossbow she had picked up in Balfonheim was not lacking in strength. Unused to the weapon, her aim was somewhat unsteady and the arrow was now lodged in the trunk of the tree instead of the small target she had leaned against it.

"You will grow used to the recoil," Fran noted calmly. She swayed gently as she walked, like a willow in the breeze, coming to stand just behind Penelo. She reached around the girl, and laid her dark, strong hand on Penelo's arms. "You should hold it more like this," she advised, adjusting the girl's position slightly.

"Oh, like that," Penelo realized. She had been a bit off with the way she bent her elbows. Although Fran usually used a regular bow, not a crossbow, she still had the most experience with this weapon out of all the group.

Penelo blushed a little as the closeness of the lovely viera began to sink in. Fran was leaning down to bring her face level with Penelo's so she could get a better idea of how the would-be archer was taking her aim. Penelo could feel the warmth of Fran's soft breath on her neck.

"Try it again," Fran suggested. "Stay steady. I think you will do better this time."

"A-are you going to stay right there? Don't I need a little more space?" Penelo said nervously, "I mean, I don't want to smack into you if I start reeling backward again."

"It will be fine," Fran assured her, taking her hand off Penelo's arm, but continuing to stand close and watch.

Penelo loaded the crossbow, took her aim, and fired. The arrow shot swiftly through the air, thudding into the very edge of the target. She stumbled backward, though with less force than before, bumping against the taller woman.

Fran grabbed Penelo's shoulders and steadied her gently. "You will need practice, but that was better."

"Yeah, it was," Penelo smiled, "Thank you for your advice, Fran."
