[August 9, 2008][Suikoden III] A Clean Slate

Title: A Clean Slate
Day/Theme: Aug. 9, 2008 "White it out"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Tavin, Wednesday, and an "unmentionable man" [Luc]
Rating: PG

"And what shall we do here, Sir?" Tavin piped up, rising from amidst the stacks of papers and books that surrounded him to bring a record of the bishops in the western regions to the Inquisitor General's attention. "I was just about to paint out the dates of the unmentionable fellow when I realized that this would leave a small gap between the terms of Gallant and Markley. It's obviously too large to be merely a break created by the taking of time to elect or appoint a new bishop, so I feared it could be seen as somewhat suspicious..."

Wednesday took the offered manuscript and studied it carefully, skipping back a few pages to compare this notation with the way things had been recorded in the past. "It would be harder to say Gallant continued running the diocese six months after his death- we would need to alter his records as well then, so just give it to Markley. I'm sure he'll be happy to add six problem-free months to the front end of his career."

He passed over the record book and Tavin carried it back to his workspace- little more than a cleared patch on the floor. With a tiny brush he wiped paint over the unmentionable man's name and dates, blowing gently on the page to speed the drying.

"I found another one," Rosalie declared, setting another record book on the small stack of documents to be altered. Though the unmentionable man had not stayed long enough to cause his deeds to be written of an overly large amount of time, the number of books that needed to be checked for any comment on him was still quite large. Rosalie and several other minor operatives had ben stuck with this task, while Wednesday and Tavin, who were most skilled with fine brushwork and calligraphy, did the actual whiting out and amending of the documents. It was rather tedious work, but it had to be done.

Tavin cautiously dabbed the paint with a testing fingertip before he set to inking over it, neatly extending Markley's episcopal timeline in his best forgery of the style used in the record book.

Wednesday created a filler passage to cover the information about the unmentionable bishop. Smiling proudly at this handiwork, he slowly smoothed it onto the page where it belonged.

Tavin moved on to the next text, leaving the last one aside to dry. He knew more than the average citizen about this man, but still he pitied him his fate. It was rare that the inquisitors engaged in such book altering. It certainly made a statement about this "Luc."
