[August 8, 2008][Suikoden III] Cause for Bruises
Title: Cause for Bruises
Day/Theme: Aug. 8, 2008 "The many colors of a bruise"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Chris, Nash, Yun
Rating: PG
Chris rolled up her sleeve as they paused to take a break before entering the maze of caverns said to be the hiding place of the Flame Champion. The bruise was still there. The brown blot remained and the girl who had been providing support at the time she acquired it was gone. The bruise was fading gradually, but Yun had disappeared in an instant.
"Oooh, that looks like it hurt," Nash remarked, observing Chris' actions over his shoulder. Her frown did not deter him from turning around and scooting closer to her. "Did you get that fighting the masked bishop and his cronies?"
"No, in Chisha Village. I parried a Harmonian's halberd and the shaft of the weapon bounced off against my arm as I forced the man away." She give the spy a sharp look as she stressed "Harmonian."
Nash flinched slightly, but tried to keep up his usual casual demeanor. "Yeah, Sasarai might not look like much, but the Crystal Valley Regional Army is well-trained."
Chris rolled her sleeve back down. Nash sure loved to talk- even when they both already knew everything he had to say. She cast a glance over at Fred and Rico who seemed finished with their snack as well as readying their equipment.
"I could kiss your bruise to make it better, if you'd like," Nash suggested.
"Are you sure? Remember, the bruise isn't on my lips," Chris denied him flatly. She stood up and smoothed down her shirt. "If we're all ready, let us take this final step." Looking into the murky darkness of the cave, she felt her heart begin to beat faster. The Flame Champion awaited them- the man who could tell her about her father.
The Maximillian knight and his squire quickly fell into step with her, venturing onward into the unknown. Nash trailed behind, lingering long enough to pass a message to Dominguez Jr. without drawing the others' attention, walking backward as he watched the nasel bird flap away into the sky.
"Don't be such a slowpoke, Nash," Chris scolded him as he noisily rushed to catch up to the others. "You'll get left behind."
"Ah, don't worry, Chris! If you're scared of the dark, I can hold you close!"
Her eyes were cold. That man was pushing his luck. "Keep that up and you're asking for a few bruises of your own."
