[Aug 6] [Wall-E] Last Kiss
Title: Last Kiss
Day/Theme: August 6: Twenty-seven names for tears.
Series:Wall-E
Character/Pairing: Wall-E/EVE
Rating: G *SPOILERS* I didn't tell the end, but it's close. If you've seen it, you'll know.
She knew over 1200 different human languages and nearly 3000 technical ones. There was a decoding/translation program that she had never even had to use because she hadn’t found a dialect that puzzled her yet. No matter what he could’ve said, in any language known to human science, she would’ve understood. His silence, though, set off every internal alert she had. Something was wrong.
Under her panic, the translation programs were whirring to interpret his behavior. They kept arriving at the conclusion that he was acting just like an Earth class WALL model should have. She knew better. When he turned away from her and got back to work, her distress was so intense that her automatic diagnostics kicked in to pinpoint the reason.
She hurried after him, desperate to get some recognition from him. He couldn’t just be gone! Under her other perceptions, her diagnostics had labeled her state as ‘upset’. She caught him and made him look at her again. Nothing.
Fear, the diagnostic decided. That’s what she was feeling. What was he feeling? Anything?
She gave him a shake to make sure his oculars were working. Maybe he couldn’t see her. She cried his name, shaking him again. Maybe he couldn’t hear her. She pushed the button to play his song, but there was only static. He looked through her, not trilling her name, not moving at all. Nothing.
Anguish, the diagnostics chimed. She ignored it, taking his hand. While it did its best to process desperate hope, she waited. And waited. Nothing.
Despairgriefloss, the diagnostics sputtered, but the sensation that sank through all her workings shut them up. There wasn’t a word for this. If she’d been human, she could’ve sobbed. She couldn’t. All she could do was lean forward to hum his own song to him, the song he had lost, and let a last electric kiss flicker between them.
