The title makes it sound more exciting than it is.

"Were the rounds effective?" Jiiru wondered, lifting up his telescope to peer over the distance at the face of Siigart Fortress and the battleground before it The field closer to the Messinan side was pitted with muddy craters and everywhere the slush was churned up by weapons, hooves, and boots. The walls of Siigart appeared pockmarked with wounds from canon fire and other projectiles, but they still stood solidly, giving no sign that they would budge anytime soon.

"The canon fire was a qualified success, General," the head canoneer announced proudly, his word echoing in agreement with the sight laid out before them.

"Send word to the First and Second Armies then! We'll make a concerted effort of attacking from all three sides with canon fire and I'm sure that with that kind of cover we'll take the fortress," Jiiru commanded firmly. HE was sure of this plan. Hopefully, if he played his cards right, he would still be able to have some fun with the Holy Knights under the light of the bombardment.

"I...Well, as much as I would like to do that Sir, the Second Army doesn't have a canon division," the thin man admitted.

The general's lip twitched in annoyance. "Then split your division and loan half your men to them if that's what it takes."

"Unfortunately, that's not the only problem," Jiiru's subordinate continued, too nervous to meet the general's gaze, "We're completely out of shells. We lobbed very single one off at the fortress last night. ...At your order of course, Sir."

Jiiru rubbed his temples with a large hand. It was true that perhaps he hadn't brought as many explosives as he could've, but until this recent demonstration, he had still been uncertain about how useful they would be. There had also been the weather to consider. In the snow and rain it could prove difficult to fire the canons and snow had been the weather forecast when he had been moving out. "Well, then order more shells from the engineers, Alkan," Jiiru snapped, "And tell them to hurry it up! I'm not letting this opportunity pass me by! They can't have time to shore up their defenses!"

"Yessir!" Alkan saluted and rushed away to carry out his duty, relaxing a bit once he was out of the sight of the intense and demanding leader of the Third Army.
