Still slight ending spoilers.

An Ling had never been so privileged as to ride the rails before. He was no bender and it amazed him the way they slid the cars along the track. It was clear that he wasn't the only one experiencing the sensation for the first time as the wild-eyed look of the girl seated beside him showed. Despite the advice of the conductor, she was turned around to stare out the window behind them, looking down at the hundreds of buildings and even greater number of scaffoldings and construction sites that flashed below them.

"Where are you headed?" An Ling asked her. Clutched tightly in his hand were directions to Master Hau's home in a higher tier of the city. Even while gripping the page he was afraid of losing it. Now that the mural was finished, if he somehow managed to let go of this paper, there was a chance he would never find the master again. The city was so large and the master was just no famous enough...

"To my job at the Jasmine Dragon," the girl smiled. She was wearing a rather elaborate apron embroidered with the insignia of the tea shop, but her clothes underneath it were as plain as his own. "I used to like visiting the place before the occupation, but the owner disappeared for a while. When he came back without his cute nephew, I was a little disappointed, but I asked if I could help out, so he hired me."

"I, um, I'll come by sometime if I can find the place," An Ling smiled back. "I don't have a very good sense of direction."

"It's a pretty popular spot. I'm sure someone could help you find it," the girl answered, fiddling with the end of one of her thick, dark braids.

"I'll come, I definitely will. I love tea," the young artist continued to beam.

"I'm Jin," she said.

"I'm, uh, I'm An Ling," he spluttered. There was just something appealing about her plain, honest face. He never had much luck talking to girls, but this time things seemed to be turning out reasonably well.

The transport slid to a halt at the stop and Jin, still turned half backwards, fell back out of the seat. An Ling rushed to grab her and managed to get hold of her arm before she hit the floor. "Ow!" Jin squealed.

"Ugh!" An Ling pulled her up. She was heavier than he had expected.

"Thanks," Jin said, rubbing her arm where he had yanked her. "This is my stop."

"Uh, bye, Jin."

She brushed herself off as she left, a smile still playing over her lips. He couldn't quite compare with her last crush- especially as he had turned out to be the then-prince Zuko, but An Ling... Well, he had his own sort of charm.
