[1 August] [Harry Potter -- Bellatrix] Confidence

Title: Confidence
Day/Theme: 1 August, "Be indomitable, o my heart!"
Series: Harry Potter
Character/Pairing: Bellatrix Black
Rating: PG

Bellatrix always dressed with deliberation. Whatever the occasion, she paid a great deal of attention to how she would appear to others. For everyday use, she had robes of the finest quality, bordered with brocade ribbons adn accented with silver and gold. For galas and balls, there were exquisitely cut gowns, designed to show off her hourglass figure and ample bosom, constructed from the dearest silks and plushest velvets.

For missions, a simple black cloak, and a white mask.

And yet, for all it was the least complicated ensemble in her wardrobe, she took the most care donning it. Beneath the cloak, nothing fancy, either -- short robes, that reached only her knees, the sleeves of which stopped above her elbows. She had to have freedom of motion, of course, and it wouldn't do to be tripping over her hem if those troublesome Aurors showed up. Her tendrils of black hair, generally worn free and flowing, she tamed back into a thick plait that hung halfway down her back.

As she tended to her hair one warm August evening, she watched herself in one of the many mirrors decorating the walls of her rooom, and thought. 'There is no chance of failure,' she told herself. 'I am working for the glory of my Lord, and my virtue will be rewarded... I am a witch of an ancient House, bred from the purest and strongest blood... I have a keen mind, a powerful spirit, and an indomitable heart... I have been trained by the greatest wizard of all time... I am Bellatrix Black, and I will not fail.'

Thus emboldened, Bellatrix finished off her plait, pulled the swirling black cloak over her shoulders, slipped the gleaming white mask over her face, and disappeared into the night.
