[September 2; Doctor Who] Allergen

Title:  Allergen
Fandom:  Doctor Who
Day/Theme:  September 2; cat
Character/Pairing:  Eighth Doctor, Charley Pollard, The Master (Ainley)
Rating: G
Notes:  Doctor Who belongs to the BBC, though I'd gladly adopt Four and Eight if given the chance.

The Doctor eyed the animal in Charley's arms warily.  "You're certain it's harmless?"

"It's clearly domesticated, Doctor," Charley quipped, stroking the animal's soft fur.  "It's like a cat."

"I don't know..."  The Doctor bent to get a better look at the creature.  It didn't really look feline, but it was definitely mammalian.  He supposed Charley's cat analogy was referencing its behaviour more than its appearance, given the purring noises it was making.

The animal had long, brown fur that concealed most of its body mass.  The Doctor surmised that it couldn't weigh much more than fifteen pounds or so.  Its ears were small and round; a contrast to its rather large green eyes.  There wasn't much of a tail on it, only a small stub.  The Doctor supposed it was somewhat cute...

"What is that?"  The Master's sudden appearance in the console room startled Charley and the Doctor; Charley's new pet, however, paid him no attention.

"We're not sure," Charley said, grinning.

"I never said that!" the Doctor protested, flushing ever so slightly.  Charley would almost swear that he looked on the point of being embarrassed that he didn't have all the answers this time.  "I only said I wasn't sure of the species just yet."

"Either way, I'm keeping it."  Charley's grin widened.

The Master sniffed disdainfully as he approached to have a closer look at the animal.  It mewled at him pathetically.  Charley took this as a sign that her pet liked the renegade Time Lord and thrust it into his face.  The creature was startled by the sudden movement and latched onto the Master's head.

He jumped back with a strangled cry, prying the animal off of him.  Wearing a particularly sour expression, the Master handed the animal back to Charley.  "It's...interesting."

The Doctor had gone into hiding behind the console and was snickering as quietly as he could manage.  Charley couldn't help but giggle at the Master's reaction, herself.

"Aw, sorry about that," she said, petting her animal.  "I'll have to train him not to jump on you."

"Indeed," was the Master's deadpan reply.  He closed his eyes for a moment as he swayed somewhat, looking for all the world like he was about to pass out.

"Are you okay?"  Charley's amused expression fell as concern washed over her.

"I'm..."  The Master never finished his sentence as he dissolved into a sneezing fit rather abruptly.  He sniffed, wrinkling his nose in distaste.

The Doctor couldn't hold his composure and burst out laughing at the sight.  "Sorry, sorry," he managed to choke out.

Charley's grin returned.  "Oh my God, do you have allergies to pets like this?"

"I refuse to dignify that with an answer," the Master remarked with an ineffectual glare.  He gasped suddenly and sneezed again.

The Doctor's laughter increased and by now he was practically clinging to the console to keep from dropping onto his knees.  Even Charley couldn't help a fit of giggles that overtook her.

"You two are immature," the Master said, rolling his eyes.  Another sneeze.  "I'll be in my room."  He stalked out of the console room without looking back.

Charley and the Doctor managed to keep straight faces for almost a minute before they both burst out laughing again.

"You can keep the cat-thing, Charley," the Doctor said as his laughter quieted down.  "It'll keep him out of our hair."
