[July 30th] [Higher Ground] Immaculate
Title: Immaculate
Day/Theme: July 30 - white
Series: Higher Ground (spoilers for Shelby's past, i.e. episodes 14ish and up)
Character/Pairing: Scott/Shelby (Shelby/Others implied)
Rating: Rish (for language and a touchy subject matter; namely, teenage prostitution)
When she tried to place her hand in his, and he jerked away, he knows he hurt her. But he couldn’t understand why she’d want to touch him. If he were Shelby, he’d never want to touch another guy again.
And now, he’s interrupted her solo. Inflicting himself on her, and he just can’t seem to stop himself, can’t stop hurting her no matter what he says or does. He hears himself asking her how many men, and it sounds bad, but it’s not what he means. And of course she takes it the only way she can and starts laying into him about his ego and shit like that.
It’s like when he asked her why she couldn’t have begged, couldn’t have gone to a shelter. Why she couldn’t have done anything other than letting those men –
Because good God, the idea of Shelby – of anyone – that young and out on the streets, turning tricks for cash just so she wouldn’t have to go home to that monster.
He can’t imagine it. Can’t even think it. Can maybe only see glimpses of that world, all through a rage-red haze.
Scott wants to know how many men, wants their names and their addresses and their license plate numbers, so he can fucking wring their fucking necks. Take baseball bats to their cars. Tell their wives just where their high-powered exec husbands are when they’re not at the office. Wants to know how many men, so he can get a handle on just how dirty Shelby feels when she’s scrubbing herself raw in the shower because for him there was only one, and he feels like he’ll never be clean again.
That’s why he can’t apologize. Won’t apologize.
Because isn’t that what Peter tells him? That he has nothing to be sorry for, and if he has nothing to be sorry for, Shelby is fucking immaculate. If only she could see it.
