[September 2nd] [His Dark Materials] Sunset
Title: Sunset
Day/Theme: Sep.2/"Cat"
Series: His Dark Materials
Character/Pairing: Lyra, Pantalaimon
Rating: G
Pan is a spotted tabby, curled up sleepily on her stomach. Lyra, for her part, is still for once. She gazes out the window, her eyes reflecting the amber of sunset, and listens to Pan’s quiet cat breaths.
"Pan?" she queries softly.
"Hmmm?"
His fur is coarse and wild under her fingertips. "D’you think we’ll ever leave Jordan?"
Pan stirs, yawning widely and arching his back. "Would you want to?"
She shrugged and continued stroking. "Dunno. Would you?" Stroke. Stroke.
Pantalaimon follows her stare out to the molten light of the day’s end, looking regal as Bast of Aegypt despite the common breed of his current form.
"If we had to."
His blood is warm under her hand, pulsing in time with hers, and she thinks, without knowing why, that someday this will be important.
A/N: "Aegypt" is the best I could come up with for Lyra's world's equivalent to Egypt without confusing anyone. I don't think it's ever come up in the series, but I could be wrong. So, um, creative license?
