[July 26th] [Doctor Who] Picnic
Title: Picnic
Day/Theme: July 26th | It's me and you and our insanity
Series: Doctor Who
Character/Pairing: Fourth Doctor/Romana II
Rating: G
“Are you sure this is a good idea?”
“Of course it is. All of my ideas are good.”
“Are they, really?”
“The facts speak for themselves.”
“Then it is quite a shame that they speak against you.”
“Feeling a bit contrary today, are we?”
“Honestly, Doctor,” Romana said, with a patient look that made it all the worse, “when was the last time that one of your ‘good’ ideas did in fact work?”
“Would Mistress like to know the exact date?”
“No, K-9, she would not,” the Doctor replied before she could say anything. “And it wasn’t that long ago.”
“Then why don’t you let him answer?”
“Because it’s pointless. I’m almost done, anyway,” he said as he pulled one of the levers. “There. As from this moment, Romana, we are on the moon. The Earth’s moon, to be precise. It has a rather nice view.”
“Well, if you will not change your mind… Shall we go, then?”
“What do you say, K-9? Is it safe out there already?”
“Affirmative, Master. The force field is ready. Breathing is safe.”
“Perfect!” the Doctor replied. “Come on, Romana. We’re going to have a picnic on the moon.”
They stepped out of the TARDIS, spread out a tablecloth, and sat down to eat and enjoy the view. It was quite cozy, all things considered. Even Romana had to admit that.
“Wonderful, isn’t it?” said the Doctor. He was grinning like a little boy again – a much too enthusiastic little boy. “No place like this. We’ve got all the mysteries in the universe, a remarkable view, and no one whatsoever to bother us. It’s just you and me and our insanity.”
“And K-9.”
“Well, yes, of course. And the TARDIS. But you’re missing my point.”
“Which is?”
“We are alone together. On the moon. Isn’t that romantic?”
“It would be,” Romana said, “but we are not alone.”
“Oh, don’t start again. You know what I mean. K-9 is in the TARDIS, there’s no one else around…”
“Except for that shuttle. What day is it?”
“Are you suggesting that I’ve somehow managed to get us on the moon on the precise date one of Earth’s shuttles arrived? Do you realize there is a ridiculously small probability of that?”
“You have been known to defy probabilities, Doctor,” she said. “And what was it you said earlier? ‘The facts speak for themselves’?”
“Come on,” he grumbled, already striding back towards the TARDIS. “We’re coming back next week.”
