"Haruhi hasn't unconsciously attempted to destroy this world lately," Itsuki whispered to Kyon, "but she's begun to make some odd fundamental changes."

"Oh?" said Kyon. "What's she changed?"

Itsuki took a sip of tea, and set his cup on the table. "Set your cup next to mine," he said to Kyon.

"Alright." Kyon followed Itsuki's lead, trying not to draw attention to himself.

"How many cups are on the table?" Itsuki asked.

"Three, of course," Kyon said, before he caught himself. "Wait— what!?"

"I'm afraid you and I are going to do badly in this semester's mathematics classes," Itsuki noted.
