Wes was used to being paid attention to while Hobbie usually kept to himself and often went by unnoticed.

So, when things didn't go this way, he didn't react too well. For example when a woman he was hitting on turns to Hobbie instead of ignoring him as it happened often enough. And Hobbie was enjoying himself! He was flirting back, ignorining Wes the way Wes usually paid no attention to Hobbie when an attractive woman was around.

The problem wasn't that said woman wasn't interested in Wes but that Hobbie was obviously having fun talking to her.

But there is always a way of steering Hobbie's attention toward him again, Wes thinks, grinning, positioning his hand at Hobbie's crotch.
