[June 27] [Hellsing] Mad Dog Religion
Title: Mad Dog Religion
Day/Theme: June 27 - the thrill of the kill becomes your only law
Series: Hellsing
Character/Pairing: Seras, Yumiko, teeny bit o' Anderson
Rating: PG
“How can you follow him?” Seras nearly screamed. “How can you believe in him when he does this??”
Yumiko, with the wrath of battle long spent, peered up at the vampire with an eerily serene expression.
“He does as he is ordered to,” she answered.
“Right,” Seras said. Her hands clenched into fists. “I’ve seen how well he obeys orders. Even Maxwell’s.”
“Yes, well….” The nun made an expression that should‘ve had a ‘boys will be boys‘ shrug to go with it.. “He has always answered to higher laws.” She said it primly, obviously expecting Seras to accept that as an answer. Seras didn’t.
“I don’t think he does,” she said, leaning close to make eye contact. “I think he thinks that whatever impulse tap dances through his head was sent there by God. I think he does whatever the hell he wants and spouts off something that sounds enough like a Bible verse to justify it.”
Seras was angry and frustrated, and the warrior nun’s sudden complacence was worrying. Even an outburst against her hero didn’t reawaken her usual fire.
“Of course you think that!“ Yumiko almost chuckled. “You’re our enemy. To our people, our Church, and our God. You’re His enemy,“ she looked upwards. “As well as his.” Her eyes flitted back towards the battle.
“If I am his enemy,” Seras said, jabbing a finger at the nun. “Why are you the one with a bayonet through your spine?”
“I was in the way,” Yumiko admitted. She looked at the blade sticking out of her body. “But it will be worth it when he wins.”
She was as terrifying calm as when she was in battle mode. The fanatical light had faded from her with her strength. She lay where Seras had found her. She seemed more a nun now than a weapon of vengeance. Her expression had softened and her eyes had moved away from the katana, easily as long as she was tall, that lay out of her reach.
“He won’t,” Seras said. She stood back up. There was nothing she could do for the woman besides kill her, and she didn’t seem to be in that much pain. Seras' concern and her attempt to help had been laughed at. “He won’t win and he won’t care that you got hurt. Even humans don‘t matter to him.”
“I don’t care that I’m hurt,” Yumiko said. “I don’t matter. The mission does.” Her smile turned almost sympathetic as a shadow fell over her. Seras didn’t even have to look to see who it was. She turned and started firing, even as the bayonets rained down.
