"Doris!" came a call from the living room. "Have you finished with the gardening as I asked you an hour ago?"

Doris Williams wiped the sweat off her brow and removed her gloves. The outside heat was starting to get to her, but she wanted to stay outside a few seconds longer to admire her mother's prized rose garden. "Yes, it's all finished," she said.

"Good. Now, come on inside and get something to drink. You really shouldn't stay outside for so long."

I could use a glass of water right now, Doris thought. She went back inside to collect her pay for her day‘s work, but as she walked toward the front door, she looked down at the cracks in the sidewalk and saw tiny little weeds growing everywhere. Her job in the garden was complete, but the green sprouts growing out of the concrete looked unsightly to her. She rushed into the house to get her glass of water, and just as quickly ran back outside to retrieve her hedge clippers.

"I thought you said you were finished," her mother said with a puzzled look on her face.

Doris nodded. "I did," she noted, "but I want our front lawn to be picture-perfect when Dad comes back."

Her mother picked up her own bottle of water as she peered out one of the side windows. "My daughter," she said to herself. "Always the perfectionist. I just wish you wouldn't push yourself in this weather."
