[September 1][Hunter x Hunter] First Steps
Title: First Steps
Day/Theme: September 1 -- Here we are
Series: Hunter x Hunter
Character/Pairing: Kuroro and the original Genei Ryodan
Rating: G
Part 1 of my Spiders series. [every post this month (barring Hogwarts, of course) will be about the Genei Ryodan from Hunter x Hunter]
There are no true borders to the City of the Shooting Star—it doesn’t exist, after all, and you’d be hard-pressed to find it on a map. Even within the city (which is not a city), the various villages (that do not exist) are concentrated at certain dump sites that are considered more habitable or valuable than others, and the homes seem to diffuse out from those points, slowly spreading out towards the miles of wasteland that separate the villages.
There is nothing separating the City of the Shooting Star from the rest of the dump heap, or the rest of the world, in fact, but its residents (who don’t appear on paper, and therefore have never lived) know the difference between where they are not wanted and where they won’t be bothered.
A small band of people make their way across the wasteland. There are faster ways out of the city; easier ways, too, but their leader can’t think of a better way. His calm, dark eyes track the changes around them, noting the shift from the most viciously hidden secrets to the standard remnants of corruption to the dull and quickly disposed-of embarrassments to the daily refuse of normal life.
He pauses, just once, at the edge of something. There is nothing to mark it, but they all know what this place is, and what lies beyond it. For a moment, he looks painfully young. Before they can say anything, he looks over his shoulder, smiles, and walks forward into their new life. It is easy to follow him.
