[May 25, 2008][Original] Arigh Onboard
Title: Arigh Onboard
Day/Theme: May 25, 2008 "You will excuse me if I skip the masquerade"
Series: Original (Navigator)
Character/Pairing: Arigh, Marta, Jorge, Janay
Rating: PG
The young tan man removed his military style cap and nodded respectfully to Captain Barrett. "Hello Captain. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Lieutenant Arigh Khurelbataar of the UNMDF vessel Sagittarius."
"Pleased to meet you," the captain replied, sounding as puzzled by this visitation as she looked. Her eyebrows were raised over somewhat widened eyes. "May I ask what brings you and your colleagues to our ship?"
"I was just about to get to that," Arigh smiled. His dark, narrow eyes grew even smaller as his cheeks raised happily. "Captain Janay Barrett, I am here to temporarily remove you from duty pending an investigation of Navigator's recent actions in unknown territory."
"Are you serious?" Jorge blustered, glaring indignantly into the eyes of the tall man at Arigh's side.
"I'm rarely anything but serious," Arigh answered calmly, taking a paper from his subordinate's hand and passing it to the angry security officer.
"Arigh Khurelbataar...straight from the Mars Defense Force...authorized by Admiral Nausa...taking control indefinitely..." Jorge mumbled to himself. It occurred to Marta that he always read at least partially aloud.
"I'd appreciate it if you'd just head down to your quarters, Captain," Arigh suggested in a friendly way that belied his stern directions.
Head bowed humbly, the captain filed off the bridge to wait sadly in her quarters.
Arigh continued to smile at all the crew members on the bridge. Jorge clenched the official paper in his fist. Some looked down at their stations, too embarrassed to meet his cheery gaze. Marta stared intently at him, unwilling to give him the satisfaction of cowing her.
Arigh realized that she was the only one making confident eye contact with him. He looked the young woman over, trying to size her up. He didn't know what her position was here, but he had a feeling that they would be spending a lot of time working together if he had anything to do about it. And as acting captain- well, he did. Arigh smiled stronger and brighter as Marta continued to look into his thin, dark eyes.
