Title: Like the Moon
Day/Theme: 25. You will excuse me if I skip the masquerade
Series: Labyrinth
Character/Pairing: Sarah/Jareth

Out of the whole crowd, she had been the only one not wearing a mask. In the swirl of colors and laughter, she had been silent, and shining. Like bright silver water over garish stones, she had trickled her way through the ballroom, looking for her heart’s desire.
And he had been there. Disguised in the crowd, he had felt her eyes flick over him. Her attention felt like a light breeze in the heavy, glittering atmosphere. She was shining in her pale dress, like the moon burning through multi-colored smoke that tried to overwhelm the silver light and couldn’t. Not only her dress, but her face beamed, a bright spot of purity in a decadent hall.
Maybe he only lowered his own mask so that she wouldn’t think she was being charmed by just anybody. Maybe he wanted to feel the cool light of her on his whole face. And maybe he wanted to try being as brave as she was, not admitting to himself that he was the one who needed the masks.
