"We've got to talk to Aikawa Koji," Shindou to him said when he walked in.
"He's in police custody," Touya countered, "and you know what Iijima-san said."
"Yeah. 'Conflict of interest.' Especially since he's not talking." Shindou's tone grew sour for a moment, before he dragged his T-shirt over his head, leaving his hair standing in different directions, a situation he aggravated when, to get hair out of his eyes, he shook his head wildly like a lion.
Touya suppressed a chuckle as he sat down. Shindou had finally stopped dyeing his hair three years ago, and now sported a deceptively casual style that took an eternity to achieve in the morning. It dried easily after showers, though, a fact that they both appreciated.
"Do you think he also believes the story about the family curse?" Touya asked.
"It would explain why he took Nase's goban, but what about the others?" Shindou said. "Mine is certainly not an Aikawa goban; it's not expensive enough."
"And Ito-san's is too old."
"Yes." Shindou frowned. "Maybe it's wishful thinking..." He pulled Touya to him, his nostrils flaring. Their legs tangled briefly until they found a mutually satisfactory position, at which point Shindou finally kicked his boxers away.
Touya thought idly as he returned Shindou's caresses that a description of their sex life would probably horrify those who knew them. If anyone of them cared to listen--and if they ever cared to relate it. They didn't have much of one, to start with. There were all the times they had started getting into the mood, only to be distracted by the mention of a game. The innumerable occasions they had lain in bed, arguing strategies all night until one of them finally dragged the other to the study to play, all thought of physical exertion forgotten.
Go had always been the greater comfort. For one thing, it was far less predictable than sex.
But there were times when nothing but the slide of skin against skin would do, when the pleasurable sensations of giving oneself up to one's partner was a simple luxury that was comforting precisely due to its predictability.
Nonetheless, when he had embarked on his relationship with Shindou, Touya had tried to act like a romantic boyfriend, even though he been puzzled by the references to roses on pillows in relationship books. ("And laurel in your hair," Shindou had snorted later. "Only girls do that.") He'd given up then. Shindou certainly seemed quite satisfied with the lack of roses and laurel in their lives.
Later, blearily, they wiped off the mess on themselves as best they could and stumbled to the bathroom for a quick shower, not certain who was holding the other up, and stumbled back to bed, nearly tripping over the clothes strewn about the floor.
"He tried selling it to Ochi," Touya said, referring to Nase's goban
With the skill of a consummate Go player--which he was--Shindou picked up the thread of the conversation "Ochi's grandfather had been dead for months before Ochi decided to get a new goban, though."
They contemplated the idea of someone giving a grieving Ochi an object that would summon an apparition of his grandfather. Shindou shivered, and pulled Touya closer.
