[May 14, 2008][Original] Anti-Gravity Act

Title: Anti-Gravity Act
Day/Theme: May 14, 2008 "A head case, but his record was clean"
Series: Original (Navigator)
Character/Pairing: May, Marguerite, Stuart
Rating: G

Marguerite watched blandly as her coffee began to float out of her cup and the loose strand of hair across her forehead, lifted slightly. "Gravity's out again," she groaned, pushing the comm. button to speak to the bridge.

"We know, Commander," replied the chipper voice of their pilot in training. To take some pressure off Priya and the captain, as well as to keep Jorge from having a heart attack, May had been taking the night shift to practice her piloting under low stress situations. Captain Barrett claimed it was for May's own sake, but everyone knew it was more for the mental well-being of her commanding officers. "Gravity appears to be out all over the ship," May noted, consulting the status panel beside her controls.

Her wild giggling rang through the comm. system back into Marguerite's quarters. Had she forgotten to cut the channel again, or was this somehow meaningful? "May?"

"It's just," May laughed, struggling for breath, "As I moved around, my hat floated away and I suddenly imagined Marta and Yu and everyone floating in their sleep!"

Marguerite closed the comm. link. There was just no reasoning with that level of sleep-deprived nonsense.

"What are we going to do to fix it?" Stuart asked the young girl who was currently in charge of the bridge.
"I don't want anyone to wake Parsa just to tinker with this bit of trouble. Leona, how about a good old-fashioned restart of the internal systems?"

Leona scanned the statistical read-out on her screen. "Are you sure that's necessary, Miss Radcliff? If we do that, all the lights will default on and wake people up. If we summon Mr. Tri-Lushia, we're only waking one person up."

"Oh," May waved away any objections to her plan with a carefree toss of her white-gloved hand. "Don't worry about it. I'll use the main controls to flip off all the lights besides those on the bridge right after they turn on."

"Whatever you say, Miss," Leona shrugged, commanding internal systems to attempt to restart.

"I've always liked low gravity situations," Stuart smiled.
