[May 11, 2008][Original] Postcard
Title: Postcard
Day/Theme: May 11, 2008 "These are the days of miracle and wonder"
Series: Original (Navigator)
Character/Pairing: Arigh, Marta, Marguerite
Rating: PG
"If I ever hear from Arigh again it'll be too soon!" Marta groaned, thinking back to all the annoyance he had caused her in the past few weeks. The official investigation had finally ended. Even after that it hadn't exactly been easy to force Arigh and his subordinate to leave the ship. He was comfortable with his position there and seemed interested in staying if he had been allowed to. Fortunately he had not.
"I wouldn't be so quick to say that if I were you," Marguerite laughed, carrying in a stack of mail. She would usually sit down and sort it at her work station, but this time she went straight to Marta and handed her a small, thin object from off the top of the pile.
It appeared to be a postcard. "Uwah!" Marta yelped, almost throwing the old-fashioned form of communication from her hand. The picture on the postcard was not just any stock photograph of some beautiful locale, it was quite specific. It was a photo of Arigh, shirtless, lying on some unfamiliar beach of glowing sand and calm blue surf while two small moons hung low on the bright sky.
Marguerite hurried to set down the rest of the mail before she dropped it while laughing hysterically. "Ha ha ha! He's thinking about you Marta!"
"Eww!" Marta squealed, "Eww! Eww! Eww! Can I report him for this? Is this sexual harassment?" She dropped the postcard onto her workspace and wrung her hands.
"Hey, don't forget to read it! He went to all the trouble of mailing that horror to you!" Marguerite continued to laugh, "Besides, I'm too polite to read your personal mail, so you have to read it so you can tell me what he wrote!"
Marta melodramatically flipped the postcard over, trying to touch it as little as possible. "Ugh," she groaned instantly after reading just a few words.
"Read it out loud," Marguerite urged. She stepped a little closer to try and peer over Marta's shoulder at Arigh's large, flowery cursive.
The blond girl sighed. "To my dearest Marta, I hope that this postcard finds you well. I'm enjoying a well-deserved vacation, but I can't help but imagine how much more fun I'd be having if you were here with me. You like the beach, right? So, how about it? Take a little time off of your own and come join me. I look forward to seeing you. Your one and only, Arigh Khurelbataar."
Marguerite wrapped her arms around her stomach as she crumpled over laughing. "That's priceless! I can't believe I ever hated this guy! He's just too funny!"
"He makes me gag!" Marta disagreed, slamming her gloved hand down on top of the postcard to block it from her sight. "Do you think I can pretend I never got it?"
"Somehow, I don't think that'll work. I guess you'd better get started drafting your response~!"
