Day/Theme: May 3 / I love you when I forget about me
Series: Hikaru no Go
Character/Pairing: Akira/Hikaru

------------

Shindou was playing Go on the internet, his gaze so intent on the computer screen that Touya's eyes ached on his behalf. Soft, simulated clicking sounds filled the air as each player made his move, but other than that everything was silent; Touya fancied he could hear the Shindou breathing all the way across the room.

The police had promised to contact them the moment they discovered news of the goban. They did not have much to go on.

Ichikawa would only say that she had received a message from Touya's father requesting her to bring the goban to the Go salon, apparently so that Shindou could authenticate it.

"But the goban was a gift from Shindou," Touya had said. He did not add that neither Shindou nor his father would have required authentication for it. He also did not say that with Shindou was hardly a stranger to the Touya residence and would not require any special arrangement even if he wanted to check on the goban.

Ichikawa said she did not know the goban was from Shindou. Touya's father, when he was finally contacted, denied sending any message to Ichikawa.

Shindou did not immediately turn on Ichikawa in suspicion. Instead he presented his credentials as someone who knew old gobans and offered the police his help. Then he had gone home with Touya.

To Touya, it was a sign of Shindou's shock that he did not even have a smart remark to make about the whole thing. They ate dinner together, and afterwards Shindou had started playing Go on the Internet.

He seemed indefatigable, taking on new opponents as the old one surrendered, never replying to comments, and only concentrating on the Go that was before him. He racked up an unceasing string of victories: amateur or professional, his oppoenents all surrendered in the end. It was as though Shindou was in another plane of existence altogether, one where there was nothing except Go.

All through the night, Touya watched him play.
