The basement at night was dark and musky, with only a little light following her down the stairs. It had been easy to slip in unnoticed. Kohlingen was a quiet town, and a dead girl had nothing to steal.

Celes had excellent night vision. She supposed this, too, was a result of her alterations in the Imperial labs. Nevertheless, it let her enter the room without a lamp and make her way to the side of the Rachel's bed. She looked down at her frozen face. She really was very beautiful. Celes hesitated, then reached out to straighten a stray curl on her face.

It was not easy, to stand here over the girl that drove Locke to all the foolhardy risks he took. The girl who, in a way, had sent him to her.

But it wasn't hard, either, to set a boquet at the foot of the bed, and thank her.
