[May 2, 2008][Final Fantasy Tactics] Sunrise Over Goug City

Title: Sunrise Over Goug City
Day/Theme: May 2, 2008 "Hearts have a past that must be reckoned"
Series: Final Fantasy Tactics
Character/Pairing: Ramza, Mustadio, the Sylvie who's mentioned is just one of my generic party members
Rating: G

They sat on the tilted windmill watching the sunrise over the tops of Goug's main city, the atmosphere warming gradually and casting their faces in a strawberry red glow. "The rest of your group will be back today, won't they?" Mustadio said quietly. His hand inched along the unevenly tiled roof towards his companion. Mustadio was leaning back on his left arm, while Ramza was lying flat on his back, both arms tucked under his head as a makeshift pillow.

"Yes, we're going to meet up at the tavern. I hope they did well in the Orra Mines. Of course, I have no reason to doubt them. They're good people and they work hard. And I'm inclined to trust Sylvie's judgment in these matters. She's been a sellsword much longer than I."

"Hmm," the machinist nodded. "So she's just another mercenary... And those others are her crew."

"Yes, that's correct. I met her at the guild office in Gariland. She though she was being hired for a clerical position."

Mustadio smiled, a bit bemused as he imagined the bizarre mixup. "So you're not friends."

"Well, not really. They're certainly a fine bunch of people, but we aren't really close. At least not I with them. They seem a fine friendly lot amongst themselves."

Mustadio would not have been inclined to say he was relieved to hear this, but he was glad he had not come in the only stranger in a band of old friends. He reached his hand a little farther, finger inching along the hard surface one over the other like tiny feet.

"What of you, Mustadio? Do you see me as a friend?"

Mustadio halted the dance of his fingers across the rooftop as Ramza leaned his face slightly toward him. "I would like to call you a friend. Indeed, I think I would already be inclined to say so, however that would be rather presumptuous of me. Friendship is a thing that goes two ways."

"Have you ever had a friendship you found unequal?" Ramza blurted out suddenly, raising himself up on his elbows.

Mustadio withdrew his hand, pulling it back to his side. "No, I don't believe so."

"Hmm," he answered only be showing it still troubled him.

"Let's not be that kind of friends," Mustadio offered, hoping he sounded convincing.
