[May 1st] [Final Fantasy VI] my way home

Title: my way home
Day/Theme: May 1, Hey-ho, let's go!
Series: Final Fantasy VI
Character/Pairing: Locke, Terra
Rating: G
Note: Takes place mid-game.

"Knock, knock." Locke rapped his knuckles against the door frame.

Terra looked up at him from where she was seated on the low bunk in her cabin - as the only woman, she was also the only one who didn't have to share. "The ship is landing?"

"Setzer says we should be on the ground in a few minutes. They found a clearing where we can anchor the ship. We'll still have to walk a bit, we can't risk getting too close to the outpost." Locke stared at his hands as he spoke, fiddling with a thread on the cuff of his left glove.

"Locke?"

"Terra?" He smiled at her; she could see the little lines of stress at the sides of his mouth.

"Celes was very brave, you know." Locke just looked at her. "Sabin told me..." Terra got to her feet, and belted on her sword. She could feel the ship humming under he feet. In the back of her mind she could feel a different hum: the presence of the gate, and the Esper world beyond it. "We'll get her back," she added, because Locke was still just looking at her, his face too pale and his clothes rumpled. She knew he hadn't been sleeping.

"We'll get her back," he repeated, and then held out a hand. "And we'll save the world, too."

Terra took his hand. "Both of them."

Locke grinned again, and it wasn't forced this time. "Then we'd better get going."
