[March 23rd] [Jim Henson's The Storyteller] Villains' Role

Title: Villains' Role
Day/Theme: March 23rd/"Heroes have it easy"
Series: jim Henson's The Storyteller
Character/Pairing: Storyteller, the Dog
Rating: G

“In stories, we assume that the hero has the hardest role to play, but in fact it’s easy when compared to the villain’s.”

The dog flicked his ears back. “What? That’s nonsense. The villains are the ones that cause trouble for the heroes in the first place.”

The storyteller nodded, taking a sip of tea from his favorite chipped cup. “Yes, that is unquestionably true. But, the heroes are always fated to win in they end, are they not? They will forever win the hearts of the fair princesses, break evil enchantments on princes, slay the monstrous beasts and outwit wicked stepmothers and kings.”

“And what’s wrong with that?” asked the dog, tilting his head. “No one wants the villains to win.”

“Exactly,” said the storyteller, folding his hands in his lap. “No one pities them or bites their fingernails while waiting anxiously to hear of their fate. Instead, the villains are hated and loathed by those around them and are destined to lose.”

The dog huffed. “They only get what they deserved.”

The storyteller kneeled down to the dog’s level and raised one of his long crooked fingers. “But, here is the scary truth, my friend. If there were no evil men, the knights would have no one to oppose and fight for the lives of their true loves. There would be no greedy giants for clever young boys to outfox. No wicked witches to cast dastardly spells for kind hearted girls to break.”

The dog raised both of his bushy eyebrows as the storyteller leaned back in his chair.
“So, you see my friend, the villains may be depised, and rightfully so. The truth is, if there were no villains, there would be no heroes and if there were no heroes, there would be no stories to tell.”
