[March 8][Smallville] Friends Make the Best Company

Title: Friends Make the Best Company
Day/theme: Mar 8 / "Alone in a crowd one night"
Series: Smallville
Pairing: very light Clark/Lex
Rating: G
Summary: Lex is in a club, and bored. Someone appears to cheer him up. Summary sucks.
Notes: First SV fic. Speed written. Drabble length, under 500 words.

Lex was about to down his second shot when a tan hand plucked it from his grasp. Lex, still with his mouth open, watched in surprise as his best friend peered at his shot glass with interest.

“…Clark?”

“Hi.” Clark flashed him a bright grin. “Wow. This is stuff is light green.”

“Light green is a good color.” Lex eyed him: only Clark Kent would look completely out of place wearing his usual blue shirt and red jacket in a club filled with tight-fitting black tees and leather. Lex wondered how he had even gotten through the door. “What are you doing here, Clark?”

“Visiting with Chloe. She’s not here,” Clark added hurriedly, “But I heard from your dad you were here, so…”

“So…?” The younger Luthor accepted his shot glass back. “What? You decided to join the club crowd for a little while? I thought these things weren’t usually your style.”

“They’re not.” The young man grimaced, then grinned. “But you haven’t moved from your seat in two hours. I thought you were getting lonely, or…”

“You’ve been here awhile.” Lex sat back and hiked his leather coat around his shoulders. A small smile played at the corners of his mouth. “You’ve been watching me?”

“Well,” Clark fumbled. “I wasn’t sure if you’d welcome my presence or not. I thought you might go off with some girl or something. You could if you wanted to.”

“What makes you say that?”

“Oh c’mon.” Clark jerked his head at the array of females who were currently eyeing Lex Luthor, subtly or no. “At least three girls have attempted to flirt with you in the past half hour.” He raised his voice as the pounding club music grew louder.

“Interesting,” Lex shouted back. “What, are you jealous?”

“No!” Clark shrugged his shoulders in embarrassment. Lex noticed he was smiling a faintly goofy way. “So why are you here anyway, Lex, if you’re not enjoying yourself?”

“Who knows?” Lex shrugged. “I was about to leave.”

Clark grinned. “I was about to suggest you leave with me.”

“Oh?” Another raised eyebrow.

“To hang out. That’s what I mean. Hang out. We could play video games in your apartment or something. Guy times.” Clark gave Lex a gentle punch in the shoulder, his eyes bright and earnest. “C’mon. It’ll be quieter.”

“Video games.” Lex rose elegantly to his feet. “I have to say, Clark, that’s the best chat-up line I’ve heard all night. You’ve seduced me. Let’s go.”

“Geez, Lex, don’t say it like that.” But Clark smiled to himself as he followed Lex through the crowd.
