[August 29] [Harry Potter] Act of Worship
Title: Act of Worship
Day/Theme: August 29th/Hatred is holy
Series: Harry Potter
Character: Lucius
Rating: PG
It would be a mistake to say that Lucius hated muggles. Lucius had never given much thought to muggles, in the same way that he had never given much thought to the dirt under his feet. Filthy, beneath him, and not something he cared to come into contact with beyond what was absolutely necessary. Aside from the injustice of being forced to bear the company of mudbloods during his time at Hogwarts, they were simply not a part of his world.
But the Dark Lord was different. The Dark Lord did not simply disdain muggles. He loathed them. Actively. Passionately. Muggles were not, to him, mere background noise to be tolerated, but a plague, a foul beast to wage righteous war against.
And while Lucius had never considered himself a religious man, there was something almost holy in the purity of that hatred; donning that mask became something like an act of worship. Lucius had become a Death Eater not out of a desire to hurt muggles, but a desire for power, a desire to be on the winning side, yet once exposed to the Dark Lord, it was impossible not to get caught up in the strength of his hatred.
