The tide had always sent him on his way. These days, Jack wasn’t sure he liked where it was taking him.
He had always prided himself on finding the ways no one else saw, having the one trick no one else had thought of still in the bag. He had been convinced that it would still serve him well in the changing world. He was used to change after all. The winds, the seas, the weather, his luck, and the loyalty of his men were all subject to switch in a heartbeat.
Now he felt the tide pulling him toward the future. It was useless to dig your heels in on a ship. The sea couldn't be resisted. Neither could the future.
