Sousuke stared into the surface of the Asauchi blade as he might have stared into the depths of a lake. The moonlight glinted on it mockingly.
He had to find the name of his zanpakutou. It was in there, in him, if only he knew how to make it answer.
But if he looked at the zanpakutou like this, it was a mirror: a maze of mirrors that he could follow inwards, opening like the petals of a flower, unfolding in front of him into complexity, and he was falling deeper, deeper, and the name was . . .
And Sousuke's lips smiled.
