The boy shivered in Sam's arms, and his eyes watered as her tentacles worked their way under his skin, she held him tighter as he convulsed and licked his cheek, tasting both the salt of his tears and the salt of his sweat, and she flushed, beginning to sweat herself as she drew his thoughts into her mind, thoughts in her but not of her, both grossly unfamiliar and utterly intimate, and she wept and realized if she devoured every mind that has been or will be she could still never fully unravel the ciphers of the world of flesh.
