Red stood outside the front door of the Pewter City gym, looking at the shiny metallic badge in his hand.  “You’re really going to let me keep this?” he asked.
“That’s right,” said Brock.  “You beat me fair and square.  I gotta hand it to you, kid. You’re pretty good for a rookie.  You show great promise.”
“I can’t believe it...my first Pokémon League gym badge!”  He clutched the medallion tightly in his hand and raised his fist in the air.  “This is just the first step in my training.  I’m going to continue challenging you again and again, until I have all of your badges!”
Brock tapped Red on his shoulder during his moment of indulgence.  “Uh, kid?”
“Yes, Brock?”
“You’re only allowed to have one badge per Gym.”
“Oh,” said Red.  “Where do I get the next one?”
“Misty of Cerulean City has the next one,” said Brock.  “Go east along Routes 3 and 4 and through Mt. Moon until you get there.”
“Thank you very much!”  Red walked off toward the eastern edge of town, beyond the PokéCenter.  “See ya!”
Brock shook his head and returned to his gym.  “I just hope he doesn’t lose his way...”
