[February 13] [The Kouga Ninja Scrolls] A New Day
Title: A New Day
Day/Theme: February 13/ That time may cease and midnight never come
Series: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls
Character/Pairing: Gennosuke/Oboro
Rating: G
Notes: This is purely based on the book by Futaro Yamada, and not the manga Basilisk, or the movie. None of which belong to me. This also takes place pre-series before the book starts.
The moon had risen high above the blue-dark mountains, and met the two lovers in secret, covering the pathway with shadows of light for them to see by.
"Oboro…?" He whispered, trying to distinguish the silhouette a few feet in front of him as his love.
"Yes, Gennosuke, it's me."
"Are you alone?"
Oboro proceeded to nod, but realized that Gennosuke wouldn't be able to see her. "Yes," she whispered and came closer.
Gennosuke met her, and hugged her to himself tightly. They stood like that for a moment, enjoying the feel of being in each other's arms.
Gennosuke pulled back a little from her. "Oboro, I know that our love won't be welcomed by most everyone…"
"They're all stupid, really, every one of them."
"I know, but I don't think that would deter me."
"Deter you from what?"
"Deter me from making you my wife."
"Oh, Gennosuke…"
"Oboro, I not only want to purge our respective Manjidani and Tsubagakure of their hatred for one another, but I also want to spend the rest of my life with you."
"I too want that, Gennosuke." She smiled at him.
He took her face between his hands, and kissed her fiercely. He wanted to stay there with her, rooted to the spot beneath the silky white moon, and never move, but the darkness of the earth was turning into a muted grey. That was his cue to head back, otherwise the others were going to be suspicious. He didn't want them to know about Oboro and him just yet, at least not until he received Grandfather's approval.
Pulling back with some difficulty, he whispered goodbye to her, and melded back in with the shadows. Oboro watched him disappear down the road, but she didn't leave herself until well after the sun had risen.
She felt empty once again. She had looked forward to this meeting all day, and now it had gone by as fast as the fog of darkness that enveloped them earlier.
Oboro watched the sun rise over the fields. The rays gave her a certain kind of warmth and hope in her heart. She would be with him for the rest of her life. Someday, someday soon, but today was another day without him.
