[Feb. 10] [Detective Conan] Protective Dishonesy
Title: Protective Dishonesty
Day/Theme: Feb. 10: “And are forever damned with Lucifer.”
Series: Detective Conan
Character/Pairing: Shinichi (as Conan)
Rating: R/M
No one had asked him about it.
In some ways, Shinichi had expected that to be the first thing they brought up. But no—their first opportunity to question him about what had happened…and no one had said a word about the dead man in the room. They asked about the actual kidnapping, a topic on which he would have been able to offer precious little information even if he had his voice. And they had asked about the assault that had caused his injuries.
He strongly suspected that they hadn’t intended to trigger a panic attack—to be honest, he was scared by the fact that they were even in the room. And he knew Megure quite well. The inspector was a good man, and he was obviously quite concerned…which just made Shinichi feel worse about the fact that when he had to think about it, he started shaking and couldn’t breathe.
The officers had exited quickly after that, and he had been left to calm down. Once he was centered, he stared at the ceiling and wondered about the aborted interview. They had asked some of the expected questions…but nothing about the man in the room. Not a word about the gun. Somehow, he had thought that would be at the top of their list.
Either that was the next thing they intended to question him about, or they were waiting for him to recover a bit more before bringing that up, or they had already figured things out from the evidence at the scene, or…
They didn’t know.
Shinichi’s head was spinning, wondering about it. He kept going over the scene in his mind. It seemed, to him at least, that there was enough evidence there for them to piece it together and figure out what had happened. He’d left more evidence behind than most of the killers he had caught himself.
…except now he was a murderer himself.
But no one seemed to realize it. And it wasn’t just the police—it hadn’t been mentioned around him by anyone at all. Had no one really pieced it together yet?
He would keep it a secret, then. What they didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them, and would keep them from leaving him behind. As much as it frightened him to have people around him, the thought of everyone abandoning him for his crime was a terror he did not want to face.
It was just better for everyone involved if he didn’t tell them, if he hid the truth as long as possible. His belief in the truth had been completely destroyed anyway.
So really, what was one more lie?
PS. Swear to goodness, the next one actually has dialogue *facepalm*
