[Feb 01] [Magic Kaitou] Second Sight

Title: Second Sight:
Day/Theme: Feb 1 "Who ever loved that loved not at first sight?"
Series: Magic Kaitou/Detective Conan
Character/Pairing: Aoko/Kaito
Rating: PG

It was not love at first sight.

That should be stated immediately. When he first saw her he was far too young, and his sole ambition had been to make the sad girl happy. His father had taught him that skill from day one. It was perhaps the number one rule in a magician’s guide book, right along side with "Do no harm" in the Kaitou Guidebook.

“Rule 1: Make the pretty girl happy.”

So you see a sad little girl on a bench, and you whip out a rose, and her smile made way for a friendship that then could grow into something more.

Not love at first sight…

At least…

Theoretically speaking.

The real problem came when he saw her for a second time. This time as a woman… someone new… someone who held no resemblence to the little girl he first saw except for maybe the tears he saw welling up in her eyes when he came down the stairs.

Funny how roses still made her smile.

He shouldn’t have pulled her into his arms. He shouldn’t have gone to her. He shouldn’t have done a lot of things. But at that moment she looked beautiful, and right then he couldn’t have told her know had the world been about to end.

“Who ever loved that loved not at first sight?”

Right then he understand how the thought was even possible. Perhaps it wasn’t a sudden onslaught that threw him off his feet, but watching her come up to him dressed in a wave of moonlight looking heartbreakingly beautiful- well there was little doubt in his mind that he’d lost his heart and soul to her completely.

Her cheeks were red from the cold outside and he felt that she shivered as his arms closed around her (though if it were from the cold or the embrace he couldn’t have said.) Except seeing her like that, seeing her anew, for the life of him he’d lost ever sense he had.

He forgot the reason he came home. He forgot the danger. He forgot the intrigue. He forgot the fights and screams and yells and tears…

Hate, pain, loneliness, anxiety, death…

It was all gone.

Looking down into her face, watching her blue eyes welling up with tears and that same damn emotion that had rendered him useless., at that moment he knew he was lost more completely than he had ever been.

He leaned down and at that moment of daring stole a kiss. He wouldn’t have had the bravery should it have been anyone else. He wouldn’t have even considered it a year before. He’d never once considered kissing her… except that this time he was seeing her for the first time…

And love’s arrow had so firmly struck his heart he wondered if he wasn’t already dead.

Funny that she should return it so fiercely.

Funny how he remembered in their past life they would yell and scream and seemed to hate each other as much as adore.

Funny how for the first time it didn’t matter that he was KID and she was the Inspector’s daughter.

But then why had it ever mattered? Romeo loved his Juliet- Lupin his Raymond- Robin his Marion- and even the villains had always dreamed of the lady who would never once care about their affections…

Love at first sight… so cliché… so overdone…

But then… he thought through the haze of kiss… Perhaps that is the only reason I would find out that I loved her at all?

After all… scientific studies proved love made everyone go a little crazy…

And if kissing the Inspector’s daughter in a Tokyo airport with an entire taskforce outside waiting to arrest you wasn’t insane…

Well he didn’t know what was.
