Little Byakuya is being withdrawn today, Yoruichi decides, and she slows down to ask him why.
"My parents were discussing my marriage with me," he says, face haughty. "Shihouin-san was one of the suggested candidates --"
He breaks off as she starts to laugh, and glares at her.
She ruffles his hair, and steps away. "You'd never marry me."
"I'll do as my parents say." He lifts his chin.
"You won't, you know," Yoruichi says calmly. "Nobody who races like you do could ever have a heart of stone."
"That's flash step," he protests.
"Not the way we do it."
