[Aug. 26: Souls are like armed battalions] [Naruto]

Title: The Dropping of the Gate
Fandom: Naruto
Day/Theme: August 26 - Souls are like armed battalions
Character/Pairing: Kurenai/Asuma
Rating: G

Kurenai forced herself to keep calm, steady, and smart even as she once again asked herself how she ever got into this situation.

Somehow she'd been ambushed, which didn't make any sense since she knew she was far too sensible to be surprised like this. She should have seen the signs and predicted things would have come out to this. She was smarter than this; more guarded, more careful. And yet all the same, here she was--and so was he.

"So... whadda ya say?" Asuma nervously coughed.

When it came to matters of romance, no one got close to Yuuhi Kurenai. She kept her heart guarded, safe, and protected by sharp witt and a cold stare. With all of her pitfalls, her barriers, her leagions of defenses, it was virtually impossible for her soul to be captured.

And that's when she finally realized Asuma had never ambushed her. Never challenged her walls or the armies that lied within them; never scolded the way she hid herself; never demanded she surrender. He had merely stood outside her fortress, patiently waiting for her to let him in. And she did.

"Yes," she smiled.

Once again, Kurenai asked herself how she fell in love with Asuma, but in the end supposed it didn't really matter.

Authoress Notes

I my opinion, no one writes enough about Kurenai and Asuma. Then again, while I love this pairing, I've also become victim to liking just about ANY pairing with Kurenai; Kakashi/Kurenai being my second favorite. As to what exactly Kurenai is saying "yes" to is up to your own imagination. ^_^

In any case, Kurenai just seems like a guarded and private person to me, especially about her own feelings. While she does blush when Kakashi suggests she and Asuma as a couple, combining that with her denial seems to imply that she'd rather not talk about those kinds of things. Besides, she also just strikes me as a career woman.

My Kurenai-themed set of drabbles continues.
