[Dec. 28, 2007][Final Fantasy XII] Leave Fear Behind

Title: Leave Fear Behind
Day/Theme: Dec. 28, 2007 "Watching through a veil"
Series: Final Fantasy XII
Character/Pairing: Rasler/Ashe
Rating: G

The veil was the last thing she put on. Ashe smiled as she peered through the light, gauzy veil, imagining the look on Rasler's face when he saw her attired like this. She assumed he too would be white and resplendent in his wedding finery. The princess knew exactly what his pleased, slightly surprised expression would be. His eyebrows would be raised, just a bit, his lips somewhat parted as his smiled. She never tired of seeing that look.

"Your Highness, are you ready to go?" one of her ladies in waiting inquired timidly. "It looks like everyone is ready for the procession."

Ashe fingered the silky fabric of the long, trailing skirt rubbing it between her fingertips for a few moments before lifting it up to facilitate her movement down the steps and to the chariot where her soon-to-be husband awaited her.

These were the last few fleeting moments of her life as a girl passing by without comment. She would never see the halls she saw now from behind the gold-edged veil the same way again. It was not so difficult to leave the final remnants of her childhood behind her- she had been privileged and generally happy, but things were not necessarily always so easy. There had been the looming Archadian threat and the deaths of family members, watching her father age with time and worry... But she had learned to fight a little (even that small amount might be more than her father liked), she had traveled around the kingdom, played with chocobos, and met Rasler.

"Why so slow?" Rasler asked as she approached him. His glowing face wore the same expression she had predicted he'd have.

"Just savoring the moment," she replied, taking his kindly offered hand and stepping up to stand beside him. She let her skirt fall to bloom over her feet and stretch out alongside her.

"If that's the case, then savor away," he laughed, gazing happily into her eyes.

"I feel so warm enveloped in her love that I never had the time to get cold feet," the princess laughed back, letting any apprehensions from her old life flit away.
