[Dec. 22, 2007][Final Fantasy VI] Ordinary
Title: Ordinary
Day/Theme: Dec. 22, 2007 "As unique as white bread"
Series: Final Fantasy VI
Character/Pairing: Terra, Celes, Relm, Setzer
Rating: G
"You can't use your super Esper powers to see through my cards and know if I'm bluffing, right?" Relm asked the green-haired girl sitting across from her.
"I'm tired of everyone thinking I'm so different," Terra sighed, putting her cards down on the table. Unlike the last time, today she remembered to put them face down, so Setzer wouldn't take advantage of the opportunity to see her hand.
"Uh, I was just teasing," the blond girl hurriedly tried to assure her comrade, "I didn't mean anything bad by it."
"I know," the half-Esper forgave her sadly, "It's just that I can't help but be aware of how I'm not like the rest of you. I was born with magic, I have strange powers, I don't always know how to relate to others... I'm learning a little everyday, but sometimes it seems like I'll never truly fit in."
"Of course you will!" Relm piped up optimistically.
"Are you sure it's such a bad thing if you don't?" Setzer wondered, gazing at her seriously over the fan of cards in his gloved hand.
Terra didn't answer him. She looked down at the texture of the grain of the wooden table. The different shades of tannish brown twisted and snaked around each other in some mysterious pattern of nature.
"Even if your heritage is unusual," Celes spoke up, "And even if you don't understand some things about other people, you're still fairly average in other ways. Lots of people are confused about the actions and emotions, it's just that you're one of the few honest enough to admit it publicly. And that's not the only thing: you like children, you're not a very good seamstress, you like baking, but not much other cooking... That's the mix of traits you'd find in any regular girl."
Terra smiled. She and Celes had something in common when it came to being different. Even though Celes seemed distant and cold at times, there was a warm, compassionate heart beating under her armored chest. "You're right."
"You know, Celes, you're ordinary too," the green-haired girl replied, "You can't cook, you're a great singer, you have a scary temper, and you take great care of your pretty hair."
"Heh heh...I suppose I'll take that as a compliment," the blond woman answered.
