[Dec. 17, 2007][Suikoden] Unwanted Visitor
Title: Unwanted Visitor
Day/Theme: Dec. 17, 2007 "Brush it off like lint"
Series: Suikoden
Character/Pairing: Sasarai, Nika, Dios, Ket
Rating: PG
"I think the main part of your problem is that you let things bother you too much," Nika frowned. The bishop wasn't even looking at her as she spoke. He was idly fingering one of his official seals, running his thumb along the grooved surface. His eyes betrayed the distance of his mind, shining vaguely at nothing in particular.
"Sasarai? Are you listening to me?"
The brunette blinked and raised his head to meet the gaze of the young woman perched on his desk. "For the most part," he replied quietly.
The off-center quality of this answer made her smile. She couldn't help but respond favorably to this awkward expression of his feelings. "It's hard, but you shouldn't let things get to you so much," she repeated patiently.
He put down the seal. "I'm glad you realize how hard it is, because I really do try sometimes. I don't want to find myself in a tizzy over the littlest bit of trouble, but it just happens."
"Well, start with Ket then," Nika suggested. Ket's sort of trouble was usually cruel but pointless- easier to shrug off than Olia's precise barbs or Hikami's scathing remarks.
The bishop smiled too. The idea of brushing off Ket was appealing. Ket loved to be validated by attention. More often than not, he was all hot air or merely parroting Olia's ambitions. "I look forward to trying that."
There was a soft, business-like rap on the door. Sasarai knew exactly whose knock it was. "Come in, Dios."
"Sir, Bishop Cabrini is here to see you. What shall I tell him?"
Sasarai laughed softly. Nika had clearly chosen Ket as the target of this venture for a reason. "Tell him that I am busy. I have neither the time nor the inclination to see him now. If he wishes to speak to me so badly, he'll have to either leave a message or come back tomorrow afternoon."
Dios raised a questioning eyebrow, surprised that his superior would refuse a meeting when he clearly was not engaged in anything of import at the moment, but he did not ask. "Yes, Your Excellency," he agreed and left the room.
"You knew that Ket was going to come, didn't you, Nika?
"How did you know?"
